The agency's main role is financial. Annually, it distributes billions in federal money to colleges and schools and manages the federal student loan portfolio. Closing the department would mean redistributing each of those duties to another agency.

Maybe we could make up for a part of it by getting rid of all of the H1B visa folks and their extended families … or the 65+ million illegal aliens … or the millions here on 'temporary protected status', where 'temporary' has proven to be a very elastic term, indeed …

Besides -- how many of those federal employees are actually providing a net ROI for taxpayers? Every DIE job is a total waste of taxpayer money -- it produces nothing of value … same with so many of the 'administrative' jobs of the countless bureaucracies that exist within the federal government.

Another site has an article this morning about Trump's thoughts on ending the Department of Education … and the leftist site actually says that "The agency's main role is financial. Annually, it distributes billions in federal money to colleges and schools and manages the federal student loan portfolio. Closing the department would mean redistributing each of those duties to another agency." NO … moron … closing the DoE means not just shutting its doors but putting all of its personnel into other agencies -- it means firing any and all of those employees and thereby ending the functions that they allegedly perform -- NOT shuffling the money from one pocket to another.
